Artist Information
Alison was born in Kent, and spent her early childhood there. She lived by the coast and developed a love of the sea - spending many hours exploring local bays and harbours and enjoying the freedom of the beaches. The sea, in all its moods is an ongoing inspiration in her work.
Alison moved to South Wales when she was fifteen years old. She immediately felt at home - appreciating the diversity of the landscape and its culture. From the busy, frenetic streets of Cardiff with its imposing buildings - to the scenic beauty of the valleys.
Since successfully completing her degree (BA Hons in Fine Art – specialising in painting) and Post-Graduate Teaching Qualifications in 1984, she has been dividing her time between teaching and her own personal artwork. She worked full time as an art teacher in Secondary Schools for approaching ten years (rising to head of department at New College, Cardiff.) She moved to adult education where she has worked ever since - teaching Watercolour painting, Calligraphy and Craft classes in the community. In 2007 Alison became Services Manager at New Horizons, Aberdare but has continued to paint in her own time.
